5 Must-Read Facts About Wicked: For Good

Elphaba and Glinda

Wicked has become a cultural phenomenon, with people singing its iconic songs and children dressing up as Elphaba and Glinda worldwide.

What’s more, the first flick enjoyed much success at the box office, grossing an incredible $698 million internationally.

Also, it has received multiple award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actress at the Academy Awards 2025.

Since the breathtaking cliffhanger in Part One, fans are patiently waiting for a sequel to arrive on the silver screen. If you plan to watch it this November, here are five must-read facts about Wicked: For Good.

1. The Sequel Will Feature Two Brand-New Songs

Stephen Schwartz, the composer of the Wicked musical, has created two brand-new songs for Wicked: For Good.

When asked why the film features two new songs, he replied, “The storytelling required it, and, therefore, they were created — the intention was that they were organic and not imposed on the movie.”

The tracks will provide Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) and Glinda (Ariana Grande) with solos, and Cynthia Erivo reportedly collaborated with Schwartz on the song.

As a result, they will qualify the film for Best Original Song at next year’s Oscars, meaning the two leading ladies might need to battle it out in the category.

2. Dorothy Gale’s Role is Much Bigger

In The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy Gale served as the film’s protagonist, as she set off on a journey down the Yellow Brick Road in search of the Wizard of Oz.

However, she had a minor role in the Wicked musical, as she was briefly shown as a silhouette behind a large screen, with her character seemingly melting Elphaba.

For this reason, many fans of the hit Broadway musical might be surprised that Dorothy will play a larger role in Wicked: For Good.

It is believed Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox used plot points from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz to expand the character and increase the passing of time between the songs “No Good Deed” and “March of the Witch Hunters.”

3. A First-Look Trailer Might Drop in February

The official teaser trailer for Wicked was released on 11th February 2024 during the Super Bowl LVIII, suggesting the sequel’s trailer might drop the same month this year.

As both movies have November release dates, they are likely to follow a similar marketing strategy, especially because the movie was a commercial and critical success.

For this reason, it wouldn’t be surprising if film fans are treated to a sneak peek of Wicked: For Good this February.

4. A Wicked Wedding

A wedding between Glinda and Fiyero might not appear in the stage musical, but it could happen in Wicked: For Good.

One of the film’s promotional images shows Glinda in a wedding dress, suggesting the pair might walk down the aisle in the sequel.

Their ball from the musical is likely replaced with their wedding, making Glinda’s version of “I’m Not That Girl” all the more heartbreaking.

5. Wicked Might Not End with the Sequel

You might be thrilled to learn that the Wicked film universe might continue after the sequel.

In November 2024, Winnie Holzman and Stephen Schwartz confirmed they may create “something” connected to Wicked; however, they stated the project wouldn’t be Wicked Part Three or Four.

It is likely Holzman is eager to expand on their working relationship with Schwartz, as she recently told Script Mag, “There’s an alchemy when Stephen Schwartz and I work together.”
