Will Fyre Festival II Be Cancelled?

Fyre Festival 2

Fyre Festival was pitched as a luxury music festival on the island of Great Exuma in Bahamas and was scheduled to take place in April and May 2017.

and promoted by many top social media influencers, including Kendall Jenner, Hailey Baldwin, Emily Ratajkowski, and Bella Hadid.

Unfortunately, the event was postponed and then cancelled during its inaugural weekend due to issues related to food, accommodation, security, and artists.

For instance, after spending thousands of dollars on tickets, the attendees’ gourmet meals were replaced with packaged sandwiches and low-quality tents.

After a spell in prison for wire fraud charges related to the event, the event’s co-founder Billy McFarland announced Fyre Festival II will be held in 2025.

However, following the first festival’s issues, many are wondering if the upcoming event will suffer the same fate. Keep reading to learn if Fyre Festival II is likely to be cancelled.

Fyre Festival II Set to Return This May

According to the official website, Fyre Festival II is scheduled to take place from May 30 to June 2, 2025, at Isla Mujeres, near the coast of Cancun.

The event promises to provide attendees with “an electrifying celebration of music, arts, cuisine, comedy, fashion, gaming, sports, and treasure hunting.”

Ticket prices start from $1,400 to an incredible $1.1m, with the latter promising trips of luxury yachts, diving with whales, survivalist challenges, and mixology sessions, to name a few experiences.

However, the music lineup hasn’t been announced for McFarland’s second chance at festival glory, but he has stated they have already locked in some artists.

Mexico Denies Knowledge of the Festival

While tickets are currently available for Fyre Festival II, speculation is mounting about the legitimacy of the event.

For instance, Edgar Gasca, Isla Mujures’s tourism director, recently told The Guardian, “We have no knowledge of this event, nor contact with any person or company about it. For us, this is an event that doesn’t exist.”

Also, he confirmed he recently spoke with the Minister for Tourism in Quintana Roo, as well as the accommodations listed on Fyre’s official website, and they each stated they hadn’t heard about the festival.

For this reason, The Guardian reached out to Impression Isla Mujueres, a luxury hotel listed on the site, and it said it hadn’t received “any approach or enquiry with regards to the event,” and that they plan to investigate it.

As Vanity Fair once described Billy McFarland as “the poster boy for millennial scamming,” many might question if the event is real or worry it might be cancelled at the last minute.

The local government recently stated that Fyre Festival II hasn’t requested a permit, causing much doubt about the event.

Gasca told The Guardian, “I think they thought they would just announce it and see if it got traction, then ask for the permits halfway down the path. It’s a bit of a naive way to think.”

McFarland Promises Fyre Festival II is Real

Despite Gasca’s claims, Billy McFarland recently appeared on The Today Show to confirm the event will go ahead this May. He said, “Fyre II is real. My dream is finally becoming a reality.”

What’s more, he confirmed he isn’t managing the event’s details this time around, as his partners will handle every aspect of the festival.

He stated that Fyre Festival II “really isn’t about the past, and it’s not really about me. It’s about taking the vision, which is strong.”
